About the Artist
Amie O’Donoghue
I am a Raleigh-based artist creating acrylic paintings on canvas that explore memory, stillness, and connection to the natural world.
I draw my inspiration from moments in nature that stop me in my tracks— the vivid glow of a North Carolina sunset, the magic of a bluebird sighting, and the many delectable shades of green within the foliage. I feel my surroundings acutely and paint to capture places that hold lasting emotional resonance.
I studied art in college but stepped away from painting for many years, questioning whether my early painting instincts had been fleeting. A move to Raleigh marked a turning point, creating space to return to painting with renewed curiosity and freedom.
My current work reflects this rediscovery. I paint places and natural subjects as they are remembered — filtered through feeling, light, and personal experience. Each piece seeks to capture a sense of calm recognition: the feeling of encountering a place or a vision that seems both new and familiar at once.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, I use color and texture to evoke atmosphere and depth. Many works are presented in handcrafted floating frames, reinforcing the connection between natural materials and the quiet presence of the painted image.
Through Meadow Fern Studio, I share paintings intended to bring moments of reflection and peace into everyday spaces — small reminders to pause, notice, and feel a connection.
